Freestanding cranes are particularly efficient when the roof cannot support an overhead crane. The bridge is mounted to the runway profiles with articulating end carriages to ensure alignment. The runway is often supported to steels running parallel above.

Ceiling mounted systems are ideal when floor space is limited or access by other equipment is required where floor support steels would normally be needed. This option does require that the support structure be suitable for the loads imposed.
